Thanks for taking part in my social experiment

Well, been meaning to write this post for quite a while now, but finals, getting IRB approval for the modifications to my study conducted on the server and other obligations have withheld me from posting.

A number of you know what im about to say, and I wont lie, I didnt leak information unintentionally.

Heres the abstract: This server has served as a grounds for an undergraduate research study in gender relations and asumptions in a social area devoid of visual identifiers (ie counter strike). What initially was a cheap ploy to get credit for playing counterstrike and writing a paper about it turned into something far more interesting, and has provided great insight into players assumptions of gender and identity based on nothing more than an in game name (Lucy) and perhaps articulations and manurisms.

As some of you know, my name is Paul. Everything else you know about lucy is the real me, down to the last detail, just with a different identifier (lucy). I want to stress a point here, when i prested my thesis to the IRB (institutional review board), the idea was never to give a difinitive answer to your constant barage of "are you really a girl", the idea was to let you come to your own decision on that, and for a while thats how it went. Given the option of cutting my eperiment short or by giving it a bias in saying "yes i am a girl", I made a judgement call and decided to break protocol and say yes i am. This may very well render my entire body of work void as i bypased stipulations from the IRB, but the data collected was too interesting not to keep going.

I am sorry for missleading so many of you for so long, but at least know it was never my intention to harm or upset anyone, I was simply conduction a social experiment.

As some of you already know, I will be contacting you regarding doing some one on one interviews regarding your thoughts on just who lucy was and all that shyte. I hope none of you take it personally, and I do feel terrible for putting on a farce for so long.

Forgot to amend this part, I dont have exact figures with me (on "vacation") in california, but roughly 50% of you were convinced I was a guy, 30-40% thought I was a girl, and 10-20% were undecided.

I'm not sure what you expect me to say. I was 50-50. Didn't really care. I enjoy playing video games with chicks because it turns me on. So I guess i was in denial and just forced myself to pic Lucy in some lingerie in the dark get owned by me. Im just glad your not an old man and it was for a good cause. I think you should give us all goody bags with "treats" in them Smile
