|
|
Over the past year I've had an asston of issues with ping. At first it was manageable, then it became unmanageable. It resulted in me being unable to play a while
long story short, I came back, thought it was fixed, turns out it wasn't.
So, I went and bought a brand new gigabit switch, gigabit router, gigabit network card, and all Cat6 cabling and remade every single cable in the house and wired every wall plate over again.
Cable guy comes today to replace the modem and check the lines, although theyve come 3 times now and have yet to actually change anything.
So... what I'm asking, is there anything I can do on my PC to improve ping and latency in CSS?
Currently (for testing) I have a sata drive loaded with NOTHING but OS, up to date Drivers, Directx, and CSS. Lowest graphics, no skins, bare minimum.
Im pretty sure i've covered all the bases but im desperate for anything else that even MIGHT help. _________________

Sounds like something simple, perhaps even the cable/dsl modem, or your provider. Or since you seem to be so inclined, get rid of the cap on your modem. If I can remember correctly, it is just a solder job that needs to be done on it. Or you can buy a whole new modem, but your ISP may not allow it.
Just another two cents from me to you, but it doesn't sound like there is a problem internally with your cabling, switches, router, etc. Hell, you should be flying with that setup You could always test it by pinging another machine on your network. And I would imagine that you don't have ICS enabled. And another trick I learned is to enable QoS, but set it to 0 bandwidth. That one works for me. My ping on Legion is typically mid 20's.
Good luck. _________________ |

first run the ping command in console and compare it to latency, then post both here in the forms. Oh and I gotta run to work, but Fury what is that other command for game network settings? not net_graph _________________

Cable guy replaced the modem, checking after that and the network replacement I did... things seem A LOT better. I was hanging around 50 latency in game, and 70-85 ping. Im going to look into the QOS thing tonight when I get home, that sounds like it might help as well. _________________
