Sup guys...Been kicking around the idea of getting a new PC. Just wondering if there is any components you guys suggest?
What I have now is..
Emachines T3625
AMD 3200+
160GB
ATI 800XL video 256mb
intergrated sound
Logitech MX518 mouse
Logitech G15 keyboard
Probably will keep the video card for the next PC. Seems like it does fine for CSS. What I'm looking for is a good PC for a decent price just for the tower and no video installed. Do you think the video card I have now would still be up to par with things? _________________

Also, is CSS all you play? Well almost any modern card will do fine because of HL2's engine's relatively lax requirements. Are you looking to replace ram? lol, so many questions I could ask. _________________

Well I used to play command & conquer generals but haven't in months. So CS is the only thing I play atm. The amount I would want to spend is in the range of 950 for just the tower and compnents. I also have a 19 sceptre X9 12ms monitor that does a good job. How about some links to a good place that I could prebuild and see how much I'll spend. Yea more ram wouldn't hurt. 512MB Ram atm. On The G15 keyboard it shows computer useage and ram on the display and theCP usage is at 100 constantly when I am playing CS and the Ram is usually 80-95. Do not know how accurate that is though. BTW I'm not that much of a noob to PCs.. _________________

hrmm... $950 sounds alot to me, but take in effect of the exchange rate ($2 to the £), in my neck of the woods, £425-ish quite a tight budget if you want a new pc. Go for an Intel core 2 duo or an AMD cpu, and buy a 1024mb stick of RAM. Alienware is always a good place to prebuild, but the prices are hilariously misleading. Give Voodoopc.com a whirl, i think it may have a prebuild option lurking around. _________________

This is my PC.
Dell Dimension E510 (Customized)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
250GB Hard Drive
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz Processor 630MHz System Bus
2GB Dual Channel DDR2-SDRAM
Radeon X600 256MB HyperMemory Graphics Card
Hitachi DVD/CD Drive
Hitachi DVD-RW/CD-RW Drive
19" Flat Panel Display Monitor
Dell Wireless Keyboard
Logitech MX400 Performance Laser Mouse
1.44MB External USB Floppy Drive
Flash Storage Device Reader
Linksys Wireless-G Network Card
Logitech Headset
I need a new graphics card. With a 5 year warranty plan this computer cost around $2,800. I know that is way higher than what you are aiming for, but I figured I would post so you have an idea of what people are buying. I bought this system about 6 months ago, so I'm sure some things are already getting outdated. _________________

Playing off of a Dell Latitude D820 laptop
- 2.0ghz Dual Core
- 4gb RAM
- 512mb Video
- 1900 x 1200 resolution
- RW/DVD
- 100gb HD
- Intel Pro wireless (internal)
- Logitech headset
- 9 cell battery
- 17 inch screen
Crap Dell two button mouse (trying to break in a RAzer Diamondback mouse)
I'd suggest looking at the following site for a good gaming machine either desktop or laptop.

Somewhat depends on where you want to go with graphics. Less the video card, we were able to built this machine for roughly $1400 (much of which is in the HD's). Most everything from Newegg.com
Manufacturer:
ASUSTek Computer Inc.
Processor:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.4GHz
Memory:
3000MB RAM
Hard Drive:
(2) x 720 GB Seagate
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS
Monitor:
Hanns-G 19" Widescreen
The biggest issues to consider is do you want to go with pci-e or agp motherboard? Had we thought about it more, I probably would have opted for pci-e, as agp leaves us with a limited range on processor speeds and graphics expansion. I suppose thats what you get for building a system around a single video card
Food for thought. |

i suggest that you should take out the 256mb and buy 512mb x2 as it is mostly the cheapest way round buying RAM. and i would say that you could upgrade ur processor, mayb AMD 3800+ (thats what i got) and graphics card, if your going to mainly use it to play CSS then use a Sapphire X1950 PRO. cost around £120 ($250) RAM = $80 - $100 so i would say y have $100 odd to spend! xD _________________ [-TDL²-] RuDeBoI

More or less I agree with football, but for CSS-only, go for an Intel Core 2 Duo becuase AMD is rather latency-intensive and very specific if you wanna sqeeze the most performance. With an Intel, it doesnt matter what the latency is, it runs the cheapest or the most expensive RAM at the same speed. Intel is catching up... _________________

heres my custom build tower
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz
2 gigs of RAM
150 WD Raptor hard drive
250 hard drive
Asus Lightscribe cd/dvd drive
EVGA 8800GTX
Logitech 5.1 surround sound
Saitek Eclipse 2 keyboard and logitech G5 mouse
23in Acer widescreen
Thermaltake Armor case
Liquid Cooling
EVGA 590 SLI motherboard
Thermaltake ToughPower 750 watt power supply
i bought all of the parts including the screen and speakers on newegg .com for about $1400 total and built it myself. its much better then the computer that u can buy form companies such as dell for that price. A good site for a prebuild estimate would be cyberpowerpc .com.
